PRESCOTT VALLEY - In its most basic pieces, it’s the same.
Odd-man rushes up the ice. Plump rebounds in the crease. Collisions into the boards that elicit the roar of the crowd.
When the game is dissected into these components, isolated before morphing to form a two-hour-plus symphony, joining the Arizona Sundogs in Prescott Valley during the NHL lockout was the right decision for Coyotes defenseman David Schlemko.
“It’s exactly what I was looking for,” the 25-year-old said. “Lots of ice. Stay in shape. Wish the bus rides were a little shorter but other than that, it’s been great.”
It’s the same methodology for fans missing the Coyotes.
There’s still chatter over cups of soda and tubs of popcorn, taunts for opposing goalies, and special attention for the drops of blood that infect the ice.
