BRAHMAS TOP THUNDER ON NEW YEAR’S EVE
FORT WORTH SCORES THREE UNANSWERED TO WIN 4-2
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 31) – The Brahmas defeated the Wichita Thunder Monday night by the score of 4-2 behind three unanswered goals that eliminated an early deficit.
Fort Worth took an early 1-0 lead just 6:14 into the game as Tomas Klempa beat Wichita netminder Torrie Jung. For Klempa, it was his eighth goal of the season and 24th point of 2012-2013, tying Phil Fox for the team lead.
Before the end of the first period, Wichita answered with two goals of its own. Dave Inman scored the first at 10:38, and Les Reaney notched the second at 17:30. Both goals were scored on Thunder powerplays.
The Brahmas dominated the second and third periods, scoring three unanswered goals the rest of the way. Cal Wild tied the game at two 9:09 into the second period when he buried a loose puck off of a Ross Rouleau slapshot. Rouleau set up the Brahmas next goal, feeding Shawn Szydlowski on the doorstep on a 5-on-3 powerplay to give Fort Worth a 3-2 lead. The goal was Szydlowski’s second game-winner this season.
Austin Mayer added a score at 9:09 of the third period to seal the deal for the Brahmas.
Brad Fogal (8-6-1) stopped 35 of 37 shots between the posts for Fort Worth in his first start since December 22. The Brahmas’ netminder is 3-1-0 in his last four starts. Jung stopped 18 of 22 in net for the Thunder, picking up only his third regulation loss this season.
The Brahmas went 1-for-6 on the powerplay, while Wichita converted on two out of six opportunities with the man advantage.
