The Arizona Sundogs (14-15-4) will be sad to see the stretch of games against the Bloomington Blaze (16-14-1) come to an end as the ‘dogs topped the Blaze for the third straight game thanks to a 4-2 victory in Illinois on Friday night.
The teams met three times in Arizona last weekend and on New Year’s Eve making Friday’s game the fourth straight against Bloomington with one more left on Saturday night at the US Cellular Coliseum.
Arizona got off to a great start scoring three times in the first period. Jake Hauswirth and Jason Morgan scored just 1:09 apart in the first three and a half minutes of the game.
Derek LeBlanc made the score 3-0 later in the period with a power play goal, he also had an assist in the game.
Late in the second period, Jeff Kyrzakos scored for the Sundogs giving him goals in back-to-back games after going 18 straight games without a score.
Trailing 4-0, Bloomington tried to rally with a pair of third period power play goals. The first scored by Jon Booras and the next by Tyler Gron but that was as close as the Blaze would get.
Bloomington outshot the Sundogs 41-18.
Adam Russo made 39 saves improving to 7-5-3, has three straight winning decisions.
