Mavericks Comeback to End Mallards Streak


DICKSON, MAVERICKS COME BACK FOR WIN OVER MALLARDS, 4-3

John-Scott Dickson leads Mavericks with pair of goals and assist in win

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri –John-Scott Dickson had a shorthanded goal, power play goal and added an assist as the Missouri Mavericks defeated the Quad City Mallards, 4-3, Tuesday night at i wireless Center.  Mavericks’ forward Trevor Kell had three assists and Kellan Tochkin added a goal and an assist as the Mavericks bounced back to defeat the Mallards.  Goaltender Mike Clemente stopped 23 of 26 shots in the win for Missouri.  Missouri ended a two-game losing streak and improved to 22-16-4 on the season.  The Mavericks stay on the road and head to Allen on Friday night to start six games in nine days.

Mickey Lang gave the Mallards a 1-0 lead in the first period when he wristed a shot from the slot that beat Mavs’ goaltender Mike Clemente.  The power play goal was assisted by Obi Aduba and Matt Duffy and it proved to be the only goal of the first period.

Missouri scored the next two goals in the second period.  First, Dickson scored a shorthanded breakaway goal at the 8:27 mark of the period.  He was assisted by Kell and the Mavericks tied the game, 1-1.  The Mavericks took a 2-1 lead as their power play just ended when Andrew Courtney tallied his 11th goal of the season on a one-timed shot from the slot.  Courtney took a feed from Ryan Jardine and powered the puck through the padding of Mallards’ goaltender Neil Conway.

Quad City tied the game at the 14:38 mark of the second period when Bob Preece blasted a shot from the left point through traffic that found the back of the net.  He was assisted by Lang and the teams entered the final frame tied, 2-2.

Mike Stinziani gave the Mallards a 3-2 lead less than one minute into the final period.  He skated around the Mavericks defense along the left wing and snuck the puck under the padding of Clemente.  Missouri bounced back and tied the game at the 4:45 mark of the period.  Dickson skated behind the Mallards’ net and fed Tochkin who buried his eighth goal of the season.  Just under four minutes later, Dickson scored the game winner while the Mavericks were on the power play.  Kell and Tochkin assisted and the Mavericks led the game 4-3.

Missouri killed a penalty in the final two minutes of regulation including extended time of 6-on-4.  The Mavericks outshot the Mallards, 30-26.  Missouri finished with one power play goal officially as Courtney’s marker came just after a power play ended.  The Mallards also had one power play goal in the loss.
