Rapid City Holds Off Mallards 3-2
MOLINE, Ill. (February 19, 2013) – Riley Weselowski scored one goal and assisted on another, Danny Battochio made 26 saves and the Rapid City Rush held off the host Quad City Mallards’ third period comeback bid on the way to a 3-2 win Tuesday night.
The Rush scored twice in just under two and a half minutes in the second period to snap a 1-1 deadlock and take a lead they would not relinquish. Michael Couch broke the tie with a drive from the top of the right wing circle at 12:31 of the second. Rapid City was on the power play when the Mallards’ Anthony Perdicaro accidentally deflected Dan Gendur’s centering pass into the Quad City net at 14:55.
Mickey Lang’s 5-on-3 power play goal- a one timer from the slot- cut the Rush lead to 3-2 at 10:26 of the third period, but, thanks in good part to strong work from Battochio, the Mallards were unable to produce an equalizer despite enjoying further two-man advantage time in the final moments.
The Rush had first taken the lead with Weselowski’s blast from the right point 8:28 into the game. Jason Dixon whipped the puck over the sprawling Battochio from the low slot with 1:18 left in the first period to even the score at one.
