What a stretch it has been for Arizona Sundogs forward Chad Nehring who has elevated his play and taken over the league lead with 25 goals scored on the season.
The Springside, Saskatchewan native is tied for sixth in total points with 40 (25-15=40) but it was been the goal scoring that has lifted his team.
As a rookie in the ECHL last season, Nehring scored 17 times in 59 games for the Idaho Steelheads so this season’s outburst is somewhat of a surprise.
His hot hand began in mid-December when he had nine goals in 24 games heading into the Sundogs match-up against Missouri where he scored his 10th goal of the season. But things picked up shortly thereafter with a three-game streak from Dec. 18-22 and then five goals in the final two games of 2012 including a four-goal outburst on New Year’s Eve.
Over his last four games, Nehring has scored seven times with three multiple-goal games. His total over his last 13 games is 16 scores.
Arizona is next in action this weekend when the Allen Americans come to town for a pair of games.
