The National Hockey League’s season finally got under way on Saturday in a lockout shortened 48-game schedule. The NHL team’s announced their opening day rosters on Saturday and eight former CHL players are on those rosters.
Four NHL players participated in the CHL during the lockout with Kyle Quincey (Detroit) playing with Denver, Alec Martinez (Los Angeles) playing with Allen and both David Schlemko (Phoenix) and Kyle Chipchura (Phoenix) playing in Arizona.
Schlemko had previously played in the CHL during the 2007-08 season as a member of the CHL Champion Sundogs. He scored 10 goals with 29 assists with Arizona.
Making the Dallas Stars opening day rosters are defenseman Jordie Benn and forward Ryan Garbutt. Benn played 45 games with the Allen Americans in the 2009-10 season scoring nine goals with nine assists. Garbutt played with Corpus Christi during the same season scoring 22 goals with 28 assists.
In San Jose, forward Andrew Desjardins will be playing his third year with the Sharks. In 2007-08, Desjardins scored 22 goals with 37 assists with Laredo.
The eighth player is forward Keith Aucoin (NY Islanders) who played with Memphis during the 2004-05 season.
