Colorado hockey player John Grandt gets National Hockey League referee job
DENVER - When the Colorado Avalanche play their home opener on Tuesday night at the Pepsi Center, one of the men in the black and white uniforms refereeing the game will be a man who grew up playing hockey in Colorado.
John Grandt was five years old when he started playing hockey in Westminster.
He became a referee when he went to college.
"I needed a way to make some extra money without committing a lot of time," said Grandt.
He also said it was the best way to stay on ice.
