Thunder Playing for First Place

The Wichita Thunder’s weekend scoring onslaught — seven goals each in two victories over the Denver Cutthroats — has created more interesting numbers than just shots into the net.

A four-game winning streak by the Thunder, at the same time that the Central Hockey League-leading Allen Americans have hit a cold spell, has put Wichita in the position of being able to reach the top of the standings after Tuesday night’s home game against the Rapid City Rush.

The Thunder has 53 points, two behind an Allen team that has lost three straight and 6 of 7 heading into Tuesday’s game against Fort Worth.
