Although the Quad City Mallards fell 4-1 to Bloomington on Tuesday night, veteran forward Shayne Toporowski reached a personal milestone playing in his 1,000th pro game.
Toporowski, 37, has enjoyed an 18-year career than has seen him play for 16 teams – including the National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leafs- in nine leagues on two continents.
Toporowski is in his first season with the Mallards, for whom he has scored five goals and totaled 17 points in 43 games. Over the course of his career, the Paddockwood, Saskatchewan, native has scored 260 goals, notched 354 assists, recorded 614 points and piled up 2,196 penalty minutes.
Toporowski played three games for the Maple Leafs during the 1996-97 season. He was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft with the forty-third overall pick.
