Gorillas Welcome Back CHL MVP Hahn

(Team Press Release) The Amarillo Gorillas are pleased to announce that last season’s Sher-Wood CHL Most Valuable Player, Derek Hahn, has resigned with the Gorillas and will join the club for their final six games of the regular season as the team strives for a 5th consecutive postseason berth. Hahn had been playing in Europe until only a few weeks ago and will rejoin the Gorillas starting Friday when the Apes play host to the Oklahoma City Blazers. A press conference will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at 3 P.M. in the V.I.P. Room of the Civic Center to reintroduce Hahn back to Amarillo.

The clear-cut MVP of a season ago, Hahn finished last year with the most points the CHL had seen in nearly two years when he tallied 35 goals and 79 assists en route to 114 points. In addition to MVP honors, Hahn also garnered the Joe Burton Award as the league’s scoring champion and was named 1st team All-CHL last year. Hahn showed far earlier that he was a special talent as he brought home the CHL Rookie of the Year Award in 2002-03 when he notched 25 goals and 27 assists in 46 games for the Gorillas. In four seasons of professional hockey, Hahn has registered 119 goals, 195 assists and 314 total points in just 237 games played.

The Elmira, Ontario native now rejoins the Gorillas during their most crucial stretch of the season as this franchise looks for an unprecedented 5th consecutive trip to the playoffs. Hahn was with the Gorillas during each of their previous four trips to the postseason and has totaled 10 goals and 21 assists in 30 career postseason games. The Gorillas are presently 28-25-4 and are tied with Arizona for 2nd place in the Southwest Division. Both teams remain 4 points back of first-place New Mexico. The Apes are back in action tonight as they wrap up their regular season series with the Rocky Mountain Rage.
