(Team Release) The Central Hockey Leagues Laredo Bucks have named Bryan Benway as its new director of broadcasting & media relations for the upcoming 2007-2008 season. Benway, a native of New York, will broadcast all 64 of the teams regular season games, and additional postseason matches. Additional duties will include dissemination of team news and communications via press releases, website postings, and other mediums. He will also assist in sales.
The first thing that Bucks fans will notice is Bryans enthusiasm. His love of hockey will quickly show through to all Bucks fans, as he describes the fast-paced, hard-hitting action of Laredo Bucks Hockey The Coolest Game in Town, said Glenn Hart, Chairman and owner of the Laredo Bucks.
To join the Bucks in mid-July, Benway, 24, will leave his post as assistant General Manager/Broadcaster for the Little Falls (NY) Miners of the NYCBL, where he also announced play-by-play on the team's website, littlefallsminers.com.
Prior to that, from August 2005 to March 2007, Benway was the lead announcer for the Harlem Ambassadors show basketball team, announcing nearly 200 games in 34 states, seven Canadian Provinces, and Japan.
From July 2004 to August 2005 Benway was a play-by-play announcer for Foxy Gagnon's North Country Cable Network in Plattsburgh, NY, where he also announced high school and Junior A hockey. In addition, Benway hosted 'Sports Rap Live' a local high school sports highlight show that featured live interviews, and called-in viewer questions.
We are very pleased to have an announcer with Bryan Benways credentials. The Laredo Bucks have a history of selecting top notch broadcasters that seem to flourish in Laredo. We want to welcome him to our rich tradition of excellence and know that he will perform to the level our fans have grown accustomed, said Julian Kiki DeAyala, CEO and co-owner of the Laredo Bucks.
A 2005 graduate of Plattsburgh State University (NY), Benway called Plattsburgh State Men's and Women's hockey from 2003 to 2005 for a viewing audience of over four million households in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, and New Hampshire, as well as the Canadian Provinces of Quebec, and Ontario.
We are happy to introduce the new generation of play-by-play broadcasting in Laredo. I know the on-ice action and excitement felt in the arena will translate beautifully to the airwaves with Bryan at the microphone. His broadcasting experience and technical knowledge of the game will entice listeners to tune in for a fresh perspective on Big Game Hockey, said John Beckelhymer, president of the Laredo Bucks.
