Bucks Put on a Show in Home Finale
Laredo, Texas --- The Laredo Bucks clinched the No. 1 seed in the Southern Conference playoffs with an 8-2 win over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Friday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center.
The Bucks scored six consecutive goals to earn the win after the Bees tied the game in the second period. Eight different goal scorers lit the lamp for the Bucks, who had seven different players record multiple points.
The Bucks took a 2-0 lead into the second period on goals by Alex Goupil and Igor Agarunov.
The Bees tied the game in the second on goals by Josh Bonar and Jason Weitzel, only to see the Bucks respond with three consecutive goals. James Hiebert broke the 2-2 tie with his 26th goal at 11:06. Just 19 seconds later, Matt Summers banged home his 12th to make it a 4-2 game.
Bucks vet and CHL MVP candidate Jeff Bes connected at 16:57 for his franchise record-tying 45th goal on a shot that beat Bees goalie A.J. Bucchino off the far side pipe. The 45 goals by Bes is a professional high for the 15th-year pro.
Dustin Traylen made 19 saves in goal to earn his 25th win of the season. Bucchino finished with 38 saves.
