CHL ANNOUNCES SUSPENSIONS FOLLOWING GAME SIX INCIDENTS
The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced that it has suspended a pair of Colorado players with forward Greg Pankewicz and defenseman Jay Birnie each receiving three (3) game suspensions due to their actions in Game Six of the CHL Northern Conference Finals played on Monday night in Colorado, a 5-4 Texas victory.
“The CHL takes actions that could injure its on-ice officials and players very seriously,” said Duane Lewis, the CHL’s Senior Vice President of Operations. “The time of the season was taken into consideration but the actions of these players violate specific rules which call for appropriate suspensions.”
Both players will miss the Eagles seventh and deciding game versus the Brahmas on Wednesday night and should the Eagles advance to the President’s Cup finals, they will miss games accordingly.
Also as a result of Monday’s post-game melee, Colorado’s Fraser Filipic has been fined an undisclosed amount of money and the Eagles and Brahmas organizations have also been fined an undisclosed amount of money.
