Oilers Land Lawmaster In Transaction Flurry
Tulsa Oilers head coach Dan Hodge is keeping himself busy in the off season. Hodge has completed a series of transactions that has landed the Oilers defenseman Jason Lawmaster who played last season for the Mississippi RiverKings, and also defenseman Peter Kennedy, who played last season for the Wichita Thunder and Mississippi.
The Oilers acquired Kennedy and also defenseman David Victor from Wichita to complete the future considerations of two trades that sent Martin Kubaliak and L.P. Martin from the Oilers to Wichita. Tulsa then sent Victor, along with defensemen Andrew Lackner and Mike Looby to Mississippi for Lawmaster.
“I actually have a lot family in the Tulsa area, and I played with Dan my first year pro when we won a championship in Peoria,” Lawmaster, who has won a total of five championship rings, said. “So I’d been hearing a lot about the new rink, and I’m just excited about playing there and trying to win a championship in Tulsa.”
“Jason’s a winner, plain and simple. He knows what it takes to win and get the job done. I know he will be a guy we can lean on for great leadership,” Hodge said. “Peter is a real steady defenseman and Jason speaks highly of him, so he should be a good fit here with the Oilers.”
Lawmaster, 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, played in 63 games last season for Mississippi. He had six goals and 20 assists for 26 points and 139 penalty minutes. Kennedy--6-foot-2, 207 pounds-- in a combined 35 games between Wichita and Mississippi
