Scorpions End Blazers Win Streak
The Oklahoma City Blazers saw each of their winning and point-earning streaks come to an end last night in a 3-0 loss to the New Mexico Scorpions at the Ford Center.

Seth Leonard got things going for the Scorpions at 10:44 of the first. Craig Macdonald picked off a pass near the left-wing faceoff circle and was able to send it down low to Mitch Stephens who found Leonard crashing the net of Blazers netminder Doug Gronestege.
The second period was more of the same for the Scorpions as they took the play to the Blazers, outshooting Oklahoma City 22-6. New Mexico scored on one of their 22 shots at 16:26 of the frame. Stephens and Macdonald combined again to get the puck to Neil Trimm who shot the puck over the left shoulder of Gronestege. The 2-0 lead by the Scorpions was the first time this season the Blazers have trailed by two goals.
The 22 second period shots is the most by an opponent in any period against the Blazers this season.
Leonard potted his second of the night at 8:27 of the third. Dylan Row flipped the puck skyward and it was collected, in an acrobatic fashion, by Jamie Herrington. Herrington was able to flip it to Leonard in the slot who shot the puck over Gronestege.
Scorpions netminder Jason Wolfe stopped all 38 shots he faced in the win. The shutout is his second of the season.
Doug Gronestege stopped 34 of the 37 he faced in the loss. His five-game winning streak was snapped, his record falls to 5-1-0.
Oklahoma City had a variety of streaks snapped last night. The loss snapped their 10-game string of earning at least one standings point at home, a six-game home winning streak and an overall five-game winning string.
The last time the Blazer were shutout was March 20, 2008 at home against the Mississippi RiverKings.
