SOUTHAVEN, Miss The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings announced on Tuesday that Head Coach Jim Wiley has been relieved of his duties as head coach. Wiley, who coached last season with the Lexington Men O War of the ECHL, was hired this summer to replace former RiverKings coach Doug Shedden, who left the team to take a coaching position with the St. Johns Maple Leafs of the AHL.
Wiley will be replaced on an interim basis by former RiverKings goaltender and assistant coach Mark Richards(pictured). Before accepting the assistants job with Memphis, Richards was a member of the Memphis RiverKings as a player for three seasons.
This is the fourth coaching change that has occurred in the CHL this season. Corpus Christi removed Al Sims on November 18th after a 5-6-2 start, Fort Worth replaced Bill Inglis on December 2nd after a 2-15-3 start, and Bruce Garber resigned in Tulsa effective December 20th with a record of 11-9-6.
The RiverKings will be back in action tonight at the DCC as they take on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. Gametime is set for 7:05 pm.
