ICERAYS DOUBLE UP BUCKS 6-3

Five different players scored and Chris Shaffer tallied twice as the IceRays broke out of a scoring slump and losing streak with a 6-3 win over the Laredo Bucks from the Laredo Entertainment Center on Saturday night.   The IceRays win snapped a three-game losing skid and upped their record to 18-21-4 on the season. The IceRays have now won five of their last eight games.

The teams got out to a fast pace with a trio of goal in the first four minutes of the game. Curtis Huppe got it started for the IceRays when he scored on the first shot of the game with a slapshot from the top of the right circle 37 seconds into the game. The Bucks answered to tie the score at one on a Darryl Smith rebound at 3:13. Just 18 seconds after that the IceRays recaptured the lead when Chris Shaffer buried a loose puck from the bottom of the slot at 3:31. The Bucks tied the score late in the frame when Adam Rivet floated a shot towards the net from the right point that sailed through traffic.  Rays goaltender Kris Tebbs never saw the puck and it deflected off of him and into the net to cap the scoring the opening period. The Bucks outshot the IceRays 14-6 in the period, but the teams went to the second tied 2-2. 
 
The pace kept up in the second period as the IceRays scored two power play goals 64 seconds apart to take a two-goal lead. John Halverson got the lead back for Corpus Christi at 4:37 on a shot from the point that found a hole through Sebastien Centomo for his first goal with the Rays. Then at 5:41 on a different power play, Jeremy Leroux found space in the slot and scored to make it 4-2 IceRays. The Bucks got back within a goal when Smith scored his second of the game on a wrist shot from the inside of the left circle at 14:27. The IceRays responded when Adam Powell scored on a snap shot from the high slot at 16:21 to make the score 5-3 IceRays after two periods. Centomo was pulled following the goal and Andrew Martin entered to make his Bucks debut.  The Rays outshot the Bucks 14-10 in the frame.
 
Shaffer added the final goal in the third period when he beat Martin at 12:23 for his third career two-goal game.
 
Kris Tebbs (14-13-3) earned the win making 32 saves on 35 shots. Sebastien Centomo (15-11-2) suffered the loss making 10 saves on 15 shots. Martin made 15 saves on 16 shots and did not figure into the decision. The IceRays power play went 2-6 while the Bucks went 0-4 on the man advantage. The IceRays were outshot by the Bucks 35-31.
