Healthy Boron Returns to Thunder
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder announced that goaltender Tim Boron will return for the 2009-10 season.
Boron joined the Thunder in late November after beginning the season in the ECHL with the Stockton Thunder. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native appeared in 19 games for the Thunder, going 6-11-1 with a 2.59 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.
The 26-year old allowed three or fewer goals in 16 of his 19 starts. In the other three, Boron allowed only four goals. Had it not been for a pair of season-ending hip injuries that left him short of qualifying for the CHL league leaders, Boron would have ranked fifth in the CHL in goals against average and second in save percentage.
Boron earned Goaltender of the Week honors after a remarkable 53-save effort over Mississippi in a 2-1 Thunder win on December 19th. The victory also earned Boron Performance of the Week Honors. On December 13th versus Rocky Mountain, Boron shutout the Rocky Mountain Rage, saving 28 of 28 in regulation and overtime in an eventual shootout loss.
Even after being placed on the Season-Ending Injured Reserve, Boron was still voted the third most underrated player in the league in the CHL's annual Best-of-the-Best Poll. Boron had surgery on both of his hips shortly after the season ended and is expected to be 100% for the start of this season.
After going 13-4-0 during the regular season as a rookie, Boron helped the Colorado Eagles to the 2007 CHL championship posting three shutouts as well as earning the win in the clinching game of the President's Cup Finals.
Boron joins forwards Damian Surma, Glenn Detulleo, Chris Trafford, Brent Ottmann, Brad Thompson, Scott Rozendal, and Mike Batovanja, as well as defensemen Jordan Little, Arthur Fritch, Rickard Forslund, and Connor MacDonald as players under contract for the 2009-10 season. The Thunder expects to announce several more signings, including a high-profile returnee within the next few weeks.
