Similar Season with Similar Results for Eagles Riley Nelson
Some things change and some things stay the same and year after year for Colorado forward and Captain Riley Nelson it has to feel like Groundhog Day.
Playing in his seventh season with the Eagles, things are taking the shape of his first six seasons where he averaged 83 points per season and 32 goals. Through 40 games in the 2009-10 season, the Cranbrook, British Columbia native has 20 goals and 39 assists once again perching his team where they are accustomed, at the top.
His numbers this season have him on pace to best his all-time point high (91 points in 2007-08) and hit his goals average and as has become repetitive, his plus/minus numbers are right there with his previous seasons (+22 this season and a +178 over his previous six seasons).
The forwards consistency has made the Eagles one of the most successful franchises in hockey over the past seven years winning two CHL Championships and playing in the Finals four times.
If things play out like the day before, and the day before and the day before, Nelson can expect All-CHL honors once again and to be a candidate for the league’s Most Valuable Player Award…ho-hum. Just another day, another year, very similar to the ones prior.
We have to believe it is not as easy as he makes it look!
