Pair of Shutouts Highlight Friday's Action
Both the Arizona Sundogs and the Rapid City rush depended heavily on their goaltending on Friday night and both Doug Groenestege and Danny Battochio did not disappoint.
Groenestege made 23 saves blanking the Amarillo Gorillas 3-0 at Tim’s Toyota Center. The netminder improved to 9-6-3 with Arizona and 17-11-4 overall. Kevin Jarman, Linus Fagemo and Rob Lehtinen scored the goals for Arizona who wins their third straight game and improves to 4-2-1 over their last seven games.
Battochio won his 26th game of the season, second in the CHL, in a 34 save effort in the Rush’s 3-0 win at Tulsa. The rookie is 11-0-1 in his last 12 decisions and has lost just one regulation game since November 20th. Derek LeBlanc scored a power play goal and Scott Wray scored twice in the 40th win of the season for the Northern Conference leaders.
For Groenestege it was his third shutout of the season (first with Arizona) and for Battochio it marked his second shutout of the season.
