What We Learned After Friday's Action
The playoff picture got a little clearer with Friday’s action with the big winner being the Laredo Bucks who became the sixth CHL team to clinch a playoff spot and pull even for the third seed in the South with the Texas Brahmas. Here is what we learned:
The Odessa Jackalopes shootout win over Missouri pulls them to within one point of winning the Southern Conference and brings them closer to their second Governors’ Cup (regular season champs).
Missouri earned a point, coupled with Tulsa’s loss at Colorado, and moved two points clear of the sixth place Oilers for the fifth and final Northern Conference playoff spot.
Mississippi’s blasting of Texas gives the RiverKings some breathing room over the Oilers, five points, and puts Mississippi in position to clinch a playoff berth on Saturday night.
Texas and Laredo both earn playoff spots thanks to the Killer Bees shootout loss to Laredo.
Rio Grande Valley earned a point despite blowing a 2-1 third period lead to the Bucks and still have a chance to pass Corpus Christi for the fifth and final Southern Conference spot.
Colorado put 11 up on the Oilers and pulled to within a point of Rapid City, who lost in a shootout to Allen, for the Northern Conference title.
