Central Hockey League Players Well Represented in AHL Camps
65 Signed CHL Players Participating in 17 Different AHL Camps
TEMPE, AZ (September 29, 2010) – With American Hockey League (AHL) training camps opening this week, the players of the Central Hockey League (CHL) are well represented with 65 signed players skating in AHL training camps. The 65 players is a record for the league who had 28 players skate in AHL camps a year ago, the previous high mark.
“We are extremely proud of the caliber of player that calls the Central Hockey League home,” said Duane Lewis, CHL Commissioner. “We take great pride in the on-ice product that entertains our fans and are confident that the AHL will continue to see the quality of player in the CHL further strengthening our loan agreements and affiliations.”
In all, 17 of the 30 AHL teams training camps have players from the CHL participating in them with Oklahoma City with 13 players and Texas and Lake Erie with seven players each representing the most.
The Allen Americans, CHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars (NHL) and Texas Stars (AHL), lead the way with 14 players in AHL camps including six in the Stars camp. The Tulsa Oilers, CHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche (NHL) and Lake Erie Monsters (AHL), have nine players skating in AHL camps including six in the camp of the Oklahoma City Barons (AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers).
The defending CHL Champion Rapid City Rush are sending seven player to AHL camps including five players from last year’s Cup winning team (Danny Battochio, Colt King, Dave Grimson, Derek LeBlanc and Riley Weselowski).
