Americans Stay Perfect with 6-4 Win Over Mudbugs

Thursday night in Bossier City, Louisiana, the Allen Americans defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 6-4.

Box Score

In a battle of unbeaten teams which did not disappoint, the Americans jumped out to a lead early in the first, with a blast from the left wing by Tobias Whelan just 2:38 into the period.

Following Whelan with a highlight reel goal of his own was Bruce Graham, who tipped home an Erik Adams shot 6:08 into the period.

Still in the first period, Bossier-Shreveport aimed to prove that they had earned their 3-0 record to start the season, as Justin Aikins scored on the power-play 8:58 into the period.

Soon after Aikins scored, Steven Crampton rattled home a rebound on another Mudbug power-play to bring the score to 2-2.

The scoring in the first period would not yet cease however, as David Simoes would score his first goal as an American, assisted by Colton Yellow Horn, 10:47 into the period.

The second period saw less scoring, but just as much action. David Rutherford tied the game up at 3 early in the frame, on yet another power-play goal for the ‘Bugs.

Late in the period, Judd Blackwater would put the Americans ahead once again, scoring a beautiful goal as he received a feed from Dave Bonk, and deposited a backhand shot top shelf.

With 8:17 to play in the 3rd period, Steven Crampton scored again, on a nice feed from Rutherford, tying the game once again at 4.

Answering right back once again, the Americans took a 5-4 lead on a brilliant goal from Dustin Donaghy 12:18 into the third frame. Donaghy took a pass from Dave Bonk and ripped a one-timer over the glove of goaltender Archie Henderson for the goal.

Late in the game, Tobias Whelan provided the bookend, scoring an empty net goal to make it 6-4 Americans, which would prove to be the final.

The Americans and Mudbugs will face-off once again tomorrow night in Louisiana. Face-off for Friday night is scheduled for 7:05.
