Eagles Top Mudbugs, Close in on Playoff Berth

The Colorado Eagles are a single point away from becoming the first confirmed entry onto the 2004-2005 Ray Miron President’s Cup Playoffs. A 5-2 win at Bossier-Shreveport Sunday afternoon gives Colorado 76 points, and any win, overtime loss or shootout loss will guarantee the Eagles one of eight available post-season slots. Their first chance at officially punching their playoff ticket will come this Wednesday, hosting the Topeka Tarantulas at the Budweiser Events Center. Sunday, Greg Pankewicz was the key to Colorado’s come from behind road win at the CenturyTel Center, completing a hat-trick (and giving him a total of 30 goals on the season) with a shorthanded goal and an empty netter late in the contest. Mike Lephart (14th) and Karlis Zirnis (13th) also scored in the third period after trailing 2-1 after Bossier-Shreveport goals by Dan Wildfong (26th) and Chris Brassard (24th). The in gives the Eagles a 2-1-0 mark for the season in the third meeting of the respective Northern Division leaders.

Laredo 2 @ Amarillo 4
The Gorillas doubled up the Bucks in a rematch of last season’s Southern Conference Finals.
