Things have been tight all season in the Turner Conference and although things have separated somewhat, there are still some very tight races with teams fighting for virtually all eight playoff slots.
CHL Standings
At one time not too long ago, there were seven teams within a handful of games of first place and six different conference teams have claimed first place at one time or another but recent win streak by the Colorado Eagles (seven games) and the Rapid City Rush (10 games) have moved them safely ahead of the rest of the pack.
Rapid City currently holds a one point lead over Colorado for the conference lead but the Eagles have one game in hand and the pair go head-to-head Tuesday night.
Seeds three through six make up the next group with Quad City owning third place with 55 points and Bloomington and Missouri tied for fourth place with 53 points. Sitting in sixth place, just three points out of third, is the Wichita Thunder with 52 points.
The bottom three teams in the conference are the Dayton Gems, Fort Wayne Komets and Evansville IceMen. The Gems lead the red-hot Komets by just one point for seventh place. Fort Wayne is 16-4-4 since Dec. 22 and has moved from well out of the playoff picture to within reach of the middle group in the conference standings.
The IceMen are currently on the outside looking in sitting nine points out of a playoff spot.
If the playoffs were to begin today, the match-ups would be:
#1 Rapid City vs. #8 Fort Wayne
#2 Colorado vs. #7 Dayton
#3 Quad City vs. #6 Wichita
#4 Missouri vs. #5 Bloomington
