The Brahmas win in the shootout
The Texas Brahmas held onto the lead tonight against the home-town Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees after giving up their 1-0 lead. The game went into a shootout, where the Brahmas walked away with the victory in four rounds.

The first period went by with no goals on either side, but the Killer Bees were out shooting the Brahmas 9 to 4.With the second period underway, the Brahmas got an early penalty with only 43 seconds into the period, for too many men on the ice. Although usually not a good situation to be in, Adam Hogg stepped up and got an unassisted shorthanded goal at 2:12 for his fourth on the season.
This 1-0 lead gave the Brahmas momentum for the rest of the period, as they outshot the Killer Bees 12 to 5. Although no more goals were scored in the second, the momentum carried through to the third period.
The Brahmas started off the period strong, but momentum started to shift the other way when the Killer Bees notched a goal and tied up the score with 6:53 into the third. Rio Grande’s forward Tomas Klempa put the puck past Guggenberger and spoiled his shutout early in the third for his sixth of the season. The goal was assisted by Dan Gendur for his fifteenth and Adam Bartholomay for his sixth.
With no more scoring left in the third, the game carried into overtime. After five minutes of back and forth hockey, overtime ended still with no winner declared. It only took four rounds of the shootout for the Brahmas to hold onto the victory tonight, with Brendon Hodge walking away with the game winner.
The Brahmas advance to 10-6-3 and move up two points ahead of the Killer Bees in the the Berry Conference. Rio Grande falls to a record of 10-8-1 and sit in fifth place. The Killer Bees outshot the Brahmas 30-21, but could not walk away with the win tonight.
