The Evansville IceMen stayed hot ending a five-game game skid against the Turner Conference leading Fort Wayne Komets thanks to a 3-1 victory in front of a sold out crowd of 9,403 at the Ford Center on Saturday night. The loss was the second straight for Fort Wayne and the fourth in their last six games and it pulled the IceMen to within four points of the conference lead.
Bryan Gillis made 25 saves on 26 shots coming within a half minute of his first shutout of the season. He improves to 11-3-1 on the season.
Brian Bicek and John Ronan got the home team off to a good start scoring first period goals, a period the IceMen outshot the Komets 13-10.
In the second period, Nicklas Lindberg scored his 10th goal of the season extending the lead to 3-0.
Artem Podshendyalov scored a power play goal with 25 seconds remaining in the game thwarting the shutout.
Nick Boucher lost for the second straight night despite making 34 saves in the game.
