Box Score
For the second straight night, Texas rookie goaltender Mark Guggenberger stoned the opposition, this time shutting out the Dayton Gems by a 2-0 score. The win is the fourth straight for the Brahmas who move within six points of second place in the Turner Conference.
Guggenberger, a 2012 CHL All-Star, made 27 saves improving to 13-4-3 and lowered his league-leading goals against average to 2.11. The Richfield, Minnesota native has now gone 155:16 without allowing a goal.
Texas outshot the visiting Gems 38-27 as both goaltenders were outstanding. Larry Sterling takes the hard luck loss despite stopping 36 of 37 shots on the night.
Chad Woollard started the scoring in the second period with his 19th goal of the season and 274th of his CHL career. He is now just two goals away from tying Chris Richards (276) for 10th on the league’s all-time goal scoring list. Woollard has scored 40+ goals in each of the last two seasons with the Brahmas.
Adam Hogg added the second goal in the tight contest with just four ticks remaining on the clock while his team was shorthanded and while the Gems net was empty. Hogg finished with a goal and an assist and now has goals in three straight games and four of his last five contests.
Neither team could get anything going on the power play with the Gems missing on five chances and the Brahmas going 0 for 4.
Dayton now heads back to Ohio for five straight home games after their 0-2 road trip to Tulsa and Texas.
