Oakley Honors - Week 9

Tulsa right winger Jaroslav Cesky and Amarillo goaltender Shawn Degagne have earned Week Nine recognition from Oakley as the recipients of the Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week awards. Both players led their clubs to two home ice victories this week, with Cesky recording five points in Oilers wins over Memphis and Wichita, and Degagne making a total of 72 saves in Gorillas victories over Odessa and Colorado.

Cesky has played his best hockey of the season as of late, with 17 of his team leading 25 points coming in his last 10 contests. His shorthanded goal opened the scoring in a 2-1 victory over Memphis on December 16th, and he added two more goals (another shorthanded and one on the power play) and two assists the following evening in a 5-4 win over Wichita, giving him his second four-point game of the year. His hot start has him well on pace to top his career highs of 19 goals
and 42 points recorded last season with Tulsa, and Cesky has teamed with linemates Jim Dahl (24 points) and Henry Kuster (21 points) to account for over 40 percent of the Oilers 174 points scored this season.

Degagne earns CHL Goaltender of the Week honors for the fifth time in his career after leading Amarillo to their fourth and fifth consecutive wins over the past weekend. He made 38 stops in a 3-2 win over Odessa on December 16th, and another 34 saves in a 2-1 victory over Colorado the next night. Degagne has now won five straight starts, allowing a total of just 10 goals against. Degagne celebrated his 27th birthday on Sunday, and has moved into a tie for 17th place in the all-time CHL/WPHL wins list with 81 career victories for Amarillo. Nine of his career victories came during November of 2003, when he was selected as the CHL’s Goaltender of the Month.
