The Texas Brahmas have advanced to the Berry Conference Finals after their 4-2 victory on Tuesday night over the Allen Americans in Game 6 of their best-of-7 Opening Round series at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
Texas advances to meet the Governors’ Cup Champion Wichita Thunder.
The Brahmas rode the hot hand of goaltender Brad Fogal who shutout the Americans, 1-0, in Game 5 on Saturday night. The netminder continued that shutout stretch through the first two periods while his team built a 3-0 lead.
After a scoreless opening period, the Brahmas got power play goals from T.J. Fox and Brett Findlay and led 2-0 after two periods.
Texas made it 3-0 early in the third period after a score from Mike Hellyer and things looked like it would be going the Brahmas way.
The Americans would not quit as they battled back scoring two goals just 53 seconds apart with Jason Deitsch netting the first one and Keith Johnson the second.
Allen would pull their goaltender in the final 90 seconds trying to find the equalizer and extend the series to a seventh game but an empty-net goal from Hellyer would end the argument and win the series for Texas.
Fogal finished with 22 saves and Marco Cousineau made 25 stops in the loss for Allen.
