Fort Wayne Komets Advance to Turner Conference Finals
Fort Wayne and Missouri Will Battle for Turner Trophy
GLENDALE, AZ (April 10, 2012) – The Turner Conference Finals are set with the top seeded Fort Wayne Komets taking on the third seeded Missouri Mavericks with a berth in the Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup Finals at stake.
The Komets won the Turner Conference regular season crown with a 40-19-7 record (87 points) and the Mavericks finished tied for second with a 39-21-6 record (84 points) but due to the tiebreaker finished third behind the Evansville IceMen.
Fort Wayne advances to the finals after a hard-fought series against the Rapid City Rush that saw the Komets win the series four games to two. Fort Wayne dropped the first game in Rapid City but then rallied to win four of the next five games including an overtime thriller in Game 6 to end the series.
Missouri has been idle for some time after doing away with the IceMen in a four-game series sweep that conclude on April 2. The Mavs have won their opening series in the playoffs in each of the last three seasons.
The two teams met just twice in the regular season with each team winning on home ice although the Mavs victory was in a shootout.
The best-of-7 conference finals will be a 2-3-2 format and will begin on Friday, April 13 in Fort Wayne at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
