Some people say that the playoffs bring out the best in an athlete, and no one can argue this better than Wichita Thunder forward RG Flath.
The Park City, Utah native has been a key contributor for the Thunder this post season and already has notched 7 points (5 goals, 2 assists) in 5 games played. He sits in second on his team in point leaders, only one point behind Alex Bourret.
Flath is a familiar face around the Central Hockey League but is spending his first stint in Wichita this year. He has also seen time with Mississippi (2010/11), Corpus Christi (2009/10), Rapid City (2008/09), Austin (2007/08), and Oklahoma City (2007/08).
During the regular season, Flath was picked up in the middle of the year (December 17) to help increase the Thunder’s depth. He was added as a solid second or third line guy and made an impact immediately.
In 42 games played, Flath recorded 23 goals and 16 assists (39 points) with a +20. Clearly he filled an empty spot on the team and helped them earn the Bud Poile Governors’ Cup Champions award.
Now in the playoffs, Flath is more confident as ever wearing his blue sweater; he leads the entire league with 6 goals and is tied for the lead with 2 game-winning goals. He has put up three multi-point nights, as well as one of two players to record a hat-trick.
Not only is Flath finding ways to get the puck in the net, but he is also doing it in spectacular ways. Two of his six goals are shorthanded, another league-best.
The 5-11, 190 lbs forward is playing as good as he has ever played, and will look to keep things going in the Berry Conference finals when his team matches up against the Texas Brahmas.
