Moline, IL (March 16th) – Wichita (41-16-3) used a three-goal second period to skate past the Quad City Mallards (34-25-2) Friday night at the I-Wireless Center. Quad City tied the game just over a minute into the second period as Justin Hofstetter beat Thunder starter Bryan Hogan from the slot. However, Wichita scored the next three to pull ahead 4-1. Just 53 seconds later, Dustin Donaghy (8) found a loose puck at the right wing circle and made it 2-1. Wichita had only three power plays during the game, but took advantage on their second chance as Kevin Young (1) blasted an Alex Bourret feed into the net from the blue line and extended the Thunder lead to 3-1. At the 13 minute mark, Wichita scored a shorthanded goal as RG Flath (19) took a Chris Chappell pass at the red line, came in against the defender and beat Mallard starter David McKee to make it 4-1.

Jared Brown added a goal in the third period for Quad City, but it was too little, too late as Wichita skated away with a 4-2 win. Wichita improved to 4-0-2 against Quad City this season and earned its first win at the I-Wireless Center this season.

Bryan Hogan improved to 9-1-0 in Thunder blue, making 42 saves on 44 shots. He also was named the number one star of the game. Nine different players recorded points for Wichita.

Wichita pulled into a four-way tie for third place in shorthanded goals scored (10) and jumped ahead of the Mallards for first in shorthanded goals allowed (3) as the two teams were tied heading into the night.
