The Fort Wayne Komets will try to find any momentum they can get as they are down 2-0 against the Missouri Mavericks in the Turner Conference finals losing both of the first two games on home ice.
Who else should they look to besides the natural scorer,
Chris Auger, who has led the way offensively during the regular season, and now through the playoffs?
The Belleville, Ontario native is having a career-best year in his first stint with the Komets and has surpassed his personal best for goals, assists, points, games played, and plus/minus rating.
During the 2011-12 regular season, Auger played in 57 games and notched 59 points (28g, 31a) ending the year with a +22. He had 12 powerplay points, 3 shorthanded points, and 5 game-winning goals. Auger’s 28 goals and 5 game-winners were both team bests during the year.
The 5-10, 180 lb sniper has now taken his game to the next level in the playoffs, and finds himself at the top of the leader boards once again. Auger has notched at least a point in all eight games of the post-season for Fort Wayne.
So far in eight games played, Auger has notched three goals and seven assists; his 10 points are a team best and also places him second in the league leaders, only one point behind Alex Bourret. His seven assists is a league-best as well (tied with Missouri’s Sebastien Thinel).
Auger’s eight-game playoff point streak can be matched with his six-game point streak that ended the regular season to give him a 14-game point streak overall (seven goals and 12 assists during that span).
The sky is the limit for this young 24 year-old as he looks to provide that spark for the Komets and get back in the series with the Mavericks.
