The Week Three recipients of the Oakley Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week awards have been selected. Colorado Eagles right winger Greg Pankewicz dominated two home games en route to Player of the Week honors while Oklahoma City netminder Sebastien Centomo recorded a pair of impressive wins for the Blazers, improving his season record to 4-0-0 and earning the Oakley Goaltender of the Week award.
Pankewicz, the 2004-2005 CHL Most Valuable Player, appears to be getting better with age, and controlled a pair of home victories over the Arizona Sundogs this weekend. He assisted on three goals in Fridays 5-4 win, including the game winner with under three minutes to play, then exploded for four goals (two on the power play, two shorthanded) and an assist in a 5-2 victory Saturday. His second tally of the game was his 500th career professional goal, and he is believed to be the first pro player to accumulate 500 goals, 500 assists, 1000 points and 3000 penalty minutes in his career.
Centomo backstopped Oklahoma City to their fourth and fifth wins of the season this week with victories over both Memphis and Rocky Mountain. He turned aside 29 shots in a 3-2 (OT) win in Memphis on October 31st, then made 36 saves Saturday afternoon (including 14 in the opening period) in a 2-1 (SO) home victory over the Rocky Mountain Rage. Centomo ranks at or near the top of all significant CHL goaltending statistics with a 4-0-0 record, a goals against average of 2.12 and a save percentage of .931.
