Valentine's Day Comeback

There was no shortage of great games Valentine’s Night, including a showdown between two of the CHL’s best as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs visited the Colorado Eagles and earned a 4-3 win behind three third period goals. The Abbott brothers led the Mudbugs, with Cam accounting for both power play and shorthanded goals (both assisted by his twin brother Chris) and Chris potting the game winning goal in the final frame. The loss was just the third on Budweiser Events Center all season for the Eagles.

Elsewhere Wednesday, the Corpus Christi Rayz halved the Laredo Bucks 4 point lead to just 2 in the Southeast Division with a convincing 6-1 win in Laredo. Corpus Christi converted five times with the man advantage, including one by birthday boy Matt Turek, while All-Star Justin Quenneville recorded four points off of two goals and a pair of assists.

In Arizona, Russian left winger Dmitri Leonov had a night to remember, scoring a hat-trick and adding three assists, while linemate Cory Stillman added three goals of his own in a 7-5 win over Arizona, bringing the Sundogs within a point of idle Rio Grande Valley for the sixth and final Southern Conference playoff position.

In Rio Rancho, the Odessa Jackalopes battled back from a 2-0 first period deficit to upset the New Mexico Scorpions. Blaine Bablitz did most of the damage for Odessa, scoring his eight goal of the season to tie the contest in the third, then setting up Jeff Ewasko for the game winning goal on the power play with just 35 seconds left to play. Odessa’s win snaps New Mexico’s five game home winning streak.
