'Bugs Win 7th Straight, Double up Oilers

If the Colorado Eagles want to win their third straight Governor’s Cup as regular season CHL champions, they’re going to have to earn it, with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs nipping at their heels and just a single point back with six days left in the season after a 6-3 home win over the Tulsa Oilers Monday night. Both clubs have single home contests remaining (Colorado hosts Lubbock Wednesday night, Bossier-Shreveport welcomes Youngstown Sunday) and play twice more on the road, with the Eagles skating in New Mexico and Arizona Friday and Saturday, and the Mudbugs shifting from Tulsa to Memphis the same nights.

Goaltender Ken Carroll flirted with what would have been a CHL career tying 22nd shutout, carrying a goose egg midway through the third period until Tulsa converted three power play opportunities in a span of just 2:29. CHL Rookie of the Year Finalist Cam Abbott continues to amaze in his first pro season, notching a hat-trick Monday night to give him goals in seven straight games and a total of 14 in his last nine outings, figures that don’t include his four goal outburst in a victory in Colorado on February 17th. His 30 total goals now leads all CHL rookies, and his 58 points are just three off the league leading pace of fellow R.O.Y. finalist Ryan McLean from the New Mexico Scorpions, who has played in 18 more games.

The Oilers, meanwhile give back one of two crucial games in hand they held over the Wichita Thunder in the race for the last remaining of six Northern Conference playoff berths. While they still hold a single game in hand over the Thunder, its looking more and more like both club’s playoff hopes will come down to a one game, winner advances – loser goes home contest when they meet in the 544th and final game of the CHL's regular season in Wichita on Sunday afternoon.

Tulsa 3 @ Bossier-Shreveport 6
TUL: Decker (2), Carberry
BOS: Cam Abbott (3), Chris Abbott, Fairbarn, Ori
8th multiple goal outing, third hat-trick of the season, for Cam Abbott
