The Memphis Riverkings survived a ferocious late comeback attempt by the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Saturday night and held on for a 4-3 home win, taking a 3 games to 1 series lead heading into Game 5 Sunday at Bossier-Shreveport's CenturyTel Center. The win by the home team was the first of the series, sparked by a goal from Derek Campbell just 10 seconds into the contest.
Game 4 Box Score: Bossier-Shreveport 3 @ Memphis 4
Memphis Leads Series 3-1
The RiverKings are a win away from advancing to the Northern Conference Finals for the first time since the 2002-2003 season, in which they won the second of their back to back Ray Miron Presidents Cup title. Memphis came out flying, with Derek Campbell (3rd of the post-season) scoring just 10 seconds into the first period then taking a 2-0 lead at the 5:31 mark on Ryan Helds second goal of the playoffs. A Ryan Fairbarn power play goal (his 5th of the playoffs, on a wrist shot through traffic) brought the Mudbugs to within a goal midway through the second. Phil Aucoin regained the two goal lead for Memphis with his fourth of the playoffs early in the third, with Chris Abbotts goal five minutes later again bringing the Mudbugs within a goal. The teams then exchanged goals just 29 seconds apart, first by Travis Banga then by Jason Basile. A frenetic finish nearly saw Bossier-Shreveport pull even in the closing seconds, with a Mudbugs scoring attempt waived off by the Referee. Bossier-Shreveport will now need to win three straight to advance to the Northern Conference Finals, beginning Sunday afternoon at home. A Mudbugs victory would extend the series to a Game 6 Tuesday in Memphis, with a Game 7, if necessary, next Thursday in Bossier-Shreveport.
