Oilers Pull Off Comeback of their Own
Just two days after a five-goal collapse in Rocky Mountain, the Tulsa Oilers (8-16-3) pulled off a comeback of their own by erasing a 3-0 second period deficit to prevail 4-3 in a shootout over the Oklahoma City Blazers (13-13-4). It was the seventh meeting of the season between the two teams with the victory ending a five-game series winning streak by OKC and also a four-game losing streak overall for the Oilers.
By the 18:33 mark of the first period, the Blazers had seen Peter Robertson, Ryan Watson and Alex Lalonde score goals giving them a three-goal cushion and seeing Tulsa starter Kevin St. Pierre chased from the game.
The goaltender switch is just what the doctor ordered as Lucas Burnett and Warren McCutcheon each scored goals less than a minute and a half into the second period making it a 3-2 games. McCutcheon would add his 13th goal of the season in the third period pulling the Oilers even and eventually sending the game to a shootout where Tulsa scored three times and the Blazers once. Burnett was credited with the game winner.
Clint Chalmers earned the victory after replacing St. Pierre. The rookie made 24 saves and improved to 4-3-0 on the season. Sean Connors suffered the loss for the Blazers on the same day he was named the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week. He falls to 5-7-2.
Both Jeff Christian (11 games) and David Beauregard (nine games) extended their point streaks with assists in the game.
Robertson and Watson each finished with a goal and an assist for the Blazers.
