BRAHMAS BLUNDER AGAINST THUNDER
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 4)- When thunder rumbles, lightning isn't far behind as the Brahmas (14-13-1) were struck against the Wichita Thunder in a 4-1 tilt in Kansas Friday evening. In the game, Wichita's Travis Clayton notched his 800th CHL point making him just the third player to reach that milestone.
The Wichita Thunder (8-18-0) was on the board early when Kyle Bruce scored a shorthanded goal on Brahmas starter Brett Jaeger at the 1:44 mark in the first period. Texas peppered Thunder goaltender Sebastien Laplante with 16 shots and forward Jordan Cameron notched his twelfth goal of the season with a feed from Grant Jacobsen and Brett Jaeger.
No scoring occurred in the second period, but tempers did heat up on the ice as Brahmas enforcer Robin Big Snake was assessed 17 penalty minutes, including five for his second fight in the game. Texas outshot Wichita 12-6 in the period.
The Thunder opened the final period much like the first as Stan Yanchishyn scored early to put Wichita up 2-1. Although Texas continued to outshoot the opponent, they were unable to find the back of the net, ultimately losing 4-1. Big Snake completed the game with his third fight for the evening, finishing with 27 penalty minutes.
