Three-Team Trade Brings Two New Faces to the SteelHounds
The Youngstown SteelHounds (21-13-2) were busy today acquiring two players in two separate transactions. First the Hounds sent defenseman Gord Burnett to the Laredo Bucks (26-12-2) in exchange for rookie forward Brent MacSween and center Jeff Genovy. Youngstown then traded MacSween to the Texas Brahmas (17-16-1) in exchange for defenseman Eric Main.
The Hounds receive an in-your-face defenseman in Main that head coach Kevin Kaminski hopes will solidify their blueline.
“Main is an in your face type player who brings character, grit and a great work ethic,” said Kaminski. “He has a mindset to not get scored on. He will play a big roll to keep the top goal scorers off the sheet.”
Genovy is a big center that was a third round selection of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2002 NHL Draft.
In Burnett, the Bucks get toughness and a solid d-man. The 6-1, 200-pound defenseman has 133 penalty minutes and is a +9. He ranks third in the CHL with 15 major penalties.
MacSween got off to a torrid start this season scoring 13 points in his first 10 games but has since totaled just eight points in the last 27 games.
