Eagles Keep the Bees Grounded
The Colorado Eagles (22-9-5) put on a show on Wednesday night at the Budweiser Events Center defeating the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (9-23-6) by a score of 7-5 in front of a sellout crowd. Riley Nelson scored two goals and had two assists as the Eagles pulled to within eight points of the idle, division-leading Rocky Mountain Rage. The loss was the ninth straight for the Bees and their 17th in their last 18 games.
The Bees scored the first goal with Rob Voltera scoring the first of two on the night midway through the first period but that seemed to stir up the dander in the defending champs as they rattled off four straight goals to finish the first period. David Iannazzo, Ed McGrane, Les Borsheim and Nelson scored the goals for Colorado.
Rio Grande Valley would mount a comeback in the second period outscoring the Eagles 3-1 but in the third period the line of Mike Lukajic, Greg Pankewicz and Nelson would combine for two more scores putting the game out of reach for RGV.
Colorado’s Marco Emond made 32 saves improving to 12-3-0 as he won his fifth straight start.
