Southern Conference All-Star Reserves Announced

The Central Hockey League has today announced the Southern Conference reserves for the 2004 Dodge CHL All-Star Game, scheduled for Thursday, January 22nd in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Southern Conference All-Star reserves were selected by Coach Terry Ruskowski of the Laredo Bucks, in conjunction with the CHL’s Hockey Operations Department. An additional six forwards, four defensemen and a goaltender were selected to join the starting lineup previously announced on December 30th.

In goal, Scott Reid of the San Angelo Saints has been named to the Southern Conference All-Star club, posting 17 wins, a 2.62 goals against average and a save percentage of .926 to date this season. Reid will back up starter Shawn Degagne of the Amarillo Gorillas.

Selections to the Southern Conference All-Star defensive unit include Mike Tilson of the Corpus Christi Rayz, Daniel Tetrault of the Austin Ice Bats, Derek Booth from San Angelo and Laredo’s Serge Dube. Already selected as starters for the contest were the Odessa Jackalopes’ Scott Hillman and Amarillo’s Mark DeSantis, both making their third consecutive All-Star appearance.

Forwards from six different Southern Conference clubs will join the starting trio of Jeff Bes (Laredo), Brent Cullation (Laredo) and Chris Minard (San Angelo). Laredo’s Chris Grenville (selected as the 2003 CHL All-Star Game Most Valuable Player with four goals in the South’s 10-6 victory over the North in Oklahoma City) has been added, along with Austin’s Gerald Tallaire, Bill Newson of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, Joe Blaznek from the Lubbock Cotton Kings, Odessa’s Sebastien Thinel, and Amarillo’s Derek Hahn, the CHL’s 2002/2003 Rookie of the Year.

The Laredo Bucks have excelled to date this season with a CHL-leading .818 winning percentage, and fittingly lead the CHL with four All-Star representatives. Amarillo and San Angelo each have three All-Star selections, while Odessa and Austin each have two players on the roster. Corpus Christi, Lubbock and Rio Grande Valley each have had single players selected to participate.

Later today, the Central Hockey League will name additional 2004 All-Star representatives, including the three-man All-Star broadcast team, trainers, equipment managers and on ice officials for the contest.
