Scorpions Fall To Southwest Leaders
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]—The Scorpions returned home after a season long six-game road trip on Wednesday. Unfortunately they fell to division leading Odessa 5-2.
Early in the first period Odessa got on the board first. Kenny Bernard slapped a shot past the outstretched glove of Andrew Martin making it 1-0.
The Scorpions answered on a five-on-three power play. Aaron MacInnis took a slap shot from the point that found the back of the net. Bernard answered at the 12:53 mark of the opening period, giving Odessa back a one goal cushion.
The Jackalopes extended their lead 4:19 into the second period when Colin Circelli scored his 13th goal of the season. New Mexico answered when Craig Macdonald poked a rebound home making it a 3-2 game.
With just under eight minutes remaining in the game Odessa return to the power play. Mario Joly parked himself in front of the Scorps net and redirected the puck into the net. The lead grew to three as Mike Ramsey’s wrist shot lit the lamp, his 12th goal of the season.
