Eagles Offensive Outburst Wins Weekly Nod
Colorado’s 9-0 Win Over Amarillo Voted CHL Performance of the Week
The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that the Colorado Eagles 9-0 victory over the Amarillo Gorillas on March 14th has been voted the winner of the CHL Performance of the Week for the week ending March 15th. The nine-goal margin of victory set a new Eagles franchise record and matched the largest margin in the CHL this season tying Corpus Christi’s 12-3 win on October 18th over the Tulsa Oilers.
Colorado’s offensive explosion received 2,242 votes accounting for 57%, while Rapid City’s Matt Zultek’s game winning goal with 47 seconds left on March 13th received 1,435 votes finishing second. The number of votes cast in the second to last regular season poll of the year was 3,958.
The Eagles won their third Governors’ Cup championship finishing with 94 points (45-15-4). During their 9-0 victory, Greg Pankewicz had a hat trick and two assists and Kevin Ulanski and Riley Nelson each had two goals and two assists.
The nominees for the CHL Performance of the Week for week 22 of the season (Mar. 16-21) are as follows:
-Laredo’s Darryl Smith scoring two goals (including game winner in shootout) during Bucks 2-1 win vs. CRP on March 16th
-Bossier-Shreveport’s Ken Carroll earning 29th career shutout making 45 saves in 4-0 win vs. Mississippi on March 20th
-Amarillo’s Sam Ftorek scoring game winning goal with less than two minutes remaining in 5-4 win at RMR on March 20th
-Rocky Mountain’s Daymen Rycroft scoring five points (2-3) in an 8-7 win at AMA on March 21st
-Corpus Christi’s Kris Tebbs making 36 saves in 3-2 shootout win at BOS on March 21st
Fans can vote for the winner through Monday, March 30th with the winner being announced on Tuesday, March 31st.
