Eagles Sign D-Men Thoring & Larranaga
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Governors' Cup champion Colorado Eagles announced today the signing of defensemen Clay Thoring and Felipe Larranaga. Thoring played in five games with Colorado last season after being picked up off waivers from the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs before suffering a season-ending injury. Larranaga joins the Eagles after playing parts of six seasons in the ECHL and Europe.
Thoring -- who had a history of offensive production in college -- started his rookie season last year with the Mudbugs, compiling three assists and 29 PIMs in 22 games. The 5-foot-11-inch, 195-pound blueliner matched that output (1-2-3) in just five games with the offensively-minded Eagles.
Larranaga -- who spent two seasons as a teammate of former-Eagle Aaron Grosul's at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks where he also flourished offensively -- has recorded 45 points (6-39-45) and 70 PIMs in 166 professional games, most of them coming in Europe. After playing in seven games with the ECHL's Fresno Falcons following his senior year, the 5-foot-8-inch, 175-pounder spent four of his next five seasons in Denmark and Norway.
