Effinger heads to Texas Stars, becomes first American called up in franchise history
ALLEN, Texas – The Texas Stars called up goaltender Charlie Effinger today after Texas goaltender Matt Climie was recalled by the Dallas Stars. Effinger becomes the first player in Americans’ history to be sent up to the American Hockey League.
“We’re really excited for Charlie. He’s been a key reason why we’ve gotten off to a positive start,” Head Coach and General Manager Dwight Mullins said Friday. “It’s pretty special to be the first player in the organization to get sent up, and we hope there are more to follow.
Effinger, 23, attended the Texas Stars’ training camp in September. The six-foot-one goalie recorded the Americans’ first shutout in the season opening game against Arizona Oct. 16. He is 3-0-0 this season with a 1.68 GAA and .946 save percentage.
The Americans also signed forward Mick Berge. The 24-year-old is from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and played thirteen games with the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL last season scoring four goals. He spent four years at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
