What a Debut for Americans Willemsen
Last night was a night to remember for rookie forward Mike Willemsen who was without a team early in the day on Thursday after being released by the Texas Brahmas on Wednesday. It didn’t take long though for the cross-town rivals of the Brahmas, the Allen Americans to call and summon the help of the 5-11, 200-pound forward as they were having some injury problems with some of their forwards.
Just 1:20 in to the game, the former Clarkson University player found the back of the net introducing himself to some of his new teammates in the celebration. For Willemsen it was his first professional goal in his fourth professional game.
The night wasn’t over for the Stittsville, Ontario native as before the period ended he gave his new team a 2-0 lead over the visiting Arizona Sundogs.
The perfect night would be complete midway through the second period with his club already up 3-1 as he scored his third goal of the game earning a hat trick in his first game with the Americans.
There is no time to celebrate as the Americans head to South Texas for a match-up with the Corpus Christi IceRays tonight at the American Bank Center. All the action can be seen on CHL-TV with face-off coming at 7:05 PM.
