BAD BLOOD SETTLES AND BRAHMAS PULL OUT 5-2 WIN
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 9)- The Red Sox and Yankees, the Celtics and Lakers, the Canadians and Maple Leafs; all teams with a heated rivalry. And now the Texas Brahmas and Allen Americans join the ranks of team battles as the two duked it out Wednesday at the NYTEX Sports Centre with the Brahmas pulling out their fourth straight victory.
The fireworks began before the opening faceoff as American’s Britt Dougherty and Brandon Straub mixed it up with Texas’ Luke Sellars and James Hiebert, all four earning game misconducts and early trips to the locker room. The Metroplex rivals, both riding winning streaks, were looking for the early goal and it was Scott Thauwald who started the scoring for Texas as his second efforts from a Lee Jubinville shot pushed past goaltender Chris Whitley for his first goal as a member of the Texas Brahmas. At the 14:08 mark in the period Brahmas forward Tyler Skworchinski showcased his sniper skills beating Whitley blind for the two goal lead.
Skworchinski continued to give Whitley nightmares when he and the Brahmas penalty killing unit blasted their seventh shorthanded goal of the season with five seconds remaining in the powerplay. The goal would be Skworchinski’s eighth of the season and second of the night. Texas’ rookies A.J. Gale and Jubinville created a highlight reel play of their own when Jubinville fed a beautiful pass to Gale for Texas’ fourth of the night.
Despite a change in net for Allen, Thauwald and the Brahmas offense proved to be too much in their barn when he netted his second goal and Texas’ fifth goal of the game. The Americans were able to get onto the board in the third with goals from Ryan Fairbarn and Tobias Whelan, but it was Joe Palmer who held them to just the pair stopping 29 of 31 shots.
